The winter is over?

A week of snow and now it is like autumn again. Let's hope there will be no severe frost when there is no snow, the poor plants are already suffering from the wet winter. But oh boy, am I glad we had the energy to slave away with the gravel last summer, this wet and cold weather is easier to stand when there is no mud on the yard!

The thing is

The thing is to have lots of things...for years I was a minimalist and now I am definitely not, or what do you think?

Don't be a wall flower

Unlike to carpets, we are spolied for choice when it comes to wallpaper. All (Swedish) wallpaper companies have released 1800's collections in this year. Our favourite for Vårkulla's living room is at the moment Sandberg's (link...) Edvin black. I might like a paper with flowers and/or birds with exotic colours but as it would be rather hard to convince my husband to agree we just might get on with the one we already agree on. In any case I want every room in Vårkulla to be different. At the moment the kitchen is gray, the hall green, bedroom golden brown and the bathroom muddy brown (or grey). The living room will either be very dark (as in Edvin black) or then very colourful.

Pretty pretty

Yes, it's really cold and miserable right now and I can't wait till it's summer. But the garden still manages to look rather pretty in the sunshine.

Let it snow

My husband is outside shovelling snow to cover the stones of the foundation to save electricity. So, never mind if you hate snow or not, it is a good thing to have some when it is minus 20 degrees!

Bohemian rhapsody

What to do when the small cabinets are too low for your husband's loudspeakers and at the same time you have too many books? Answer: put a stack of books on the cabinets and voilá, two problems solved! A bit bohemian but works for us.

Too easy

I just complained that I don't have a desk in Vårkulla anymore. But all I needed to do was open up the tabletop of the old cabinet standing in the corner and all was well again.

Going apes!

This is the year of the monkey in Chinese zodiac. To honor this (and because the thing was so cheap) I bought a brass monkey from H&M home. It is a candle holder but as a candle would hide the monkey's face I put a small Christmas bulb in to the holder so the monkey doesn't have to sit with empty arms.

Working girl

We bought a small sofa for watching TV.  First we put the sofa in front of the TV - no good, the whole room looked small and stuffed. Then I realized that we have to get rid of my desk and put the sofa beside the window. Now all is well except I don't have a desk anymore...

The sofa looked a bit boring so I added a white woolen blanket my mother has knitted...it wasn't quite   what was needed so I added a colorful fringe and a couple of pillows to make the sofa more inviting. Our laundry basket with an old tablecloth makes do as a side table. The room needs a bit of tuning still but it looks good enough for a while.

Never ending story

We have tried (and tried) to find suitable stands for the loudspeakers and have tried everything from stack of books to garden stools. The newest finds are these two cute cabinets with marble tops. My husband thinks they are too low, I think they are perfect. Well, if not for loudspeaker stands, then for something else.

Can't wait till it's Christmas again

No, I am not crazy! We just happened to find two Christmassy school boards in the local flea market today. These will be perfect as Christmas decorations next year. On the other hand, the turquoise one could pass for the rest of the year, too, don't you think?

Good for something

The old plastic Christmas tree that was already here in Vårkulla when we bought the house has been out in the garden this year. It looks rather good with the small lights and snow. But what's more, it lightens the front yard.

I am starting to hate shopping

I don't understand why everything is always so difficult. We decided we'll need new carpets for Vårkulla's kitchen: red-white or mint-white with a Swedish style traditional weave. Should have been easy but wasn't. We visited all interior decorating shops and furniture stores before landing these three (all from different shops). We almost lost hope before finally finding the biggest red carpet under the table (this one is from Sotka, the smaller red-white from Hemtex and the mint one from Anttila).

First snow

It is white and cold! There is not yet enough snow to ski but the old skis are only for decoration anyway.
