More and more

I guess you are already bored with my tins but here are a few more. I just love orange and it seems that people loved it in the fiftie´s and sixtie´s, too.

Are you just pulling my leg?

Everyone who does anything in a muddy yard needs a boot pull. We found one in a flea market today. The pull cost all of 5 euros and even though our usual style is not very rock'n roll we still liked it for our steps in Vårkulla.

My head is spinning

Old (metal) toys are lovely. Even if you don't play with them anymore, they remind you of a wonderful carefree time. I guess the kids of today will get sentimental when they'll see an iPhone 6 but for me, an old spinning top does the thing.

Romantic dreams

The root clippings of peonies don't look much but you just wait and see! Come summer, these will provide the most romantic flowers ever, pink and white and fluffy. Or not...you never know with root clippings, it might go all wrong and the roots will wither and die. But at the moment I am hopeful...

Incredibly green

You gotta love poppies! Never mind if it is below zero during the nights, the poppies just keep on growing.

Just saying hello

We have several old globes and decided to paint one of them with black chalkboard paint. My husband first soaked off the paper (map) and after the globe had dried he painted the globe without priming it first. This globe is plastic and the finnish was perfect with only one coat of paint.  Thanks to google we found several translations for the word hello - and my husband wrote the words on the globe roughly where the language is spoken. Neat, eh?

Things you forget

As there is no snow anymore and it is rather warm when the sun shines, we put our garden furniture out today. I also put out all my garden decorations and flower pots. I had no idea that I had so many pots! At the moment only lilacs survive outside so the pots will stay empty for a while. When the summer really starts, I am gonna get pelargoniums, maybe some fuchsias and some summer hydragenias.

For a moment it felt like spring

Yesterday was a rather warm day and the crocuses finally opened up.The flowers are really small but in spring any colour is appreciated.

Million roses

As you might have noticed, I love both russian dolls and flowers. Artist Aamu Song has created a perfect combination of the two: Million roses matryoshka. Aamu Song's (and Johan Olin's) little shop can be found in the middle of Helsinki, near the old main post office (Salakauppa, link..).

Flowers that don't wilt

We have a "temporary" (not so temporary really, as it has been in its place for years) wall in the living room. The wall and the door are of boring brown paper. As it happens, we went to Ikea last week and found a poppy wall decoration for 12 euros. Now the wall looks a bit less dull and poppies suit our house really well as there are a lot of real poppies growing in the garden (not yet, though).

Mission impossible

I have tried to find crystal glasses to Vårkulla for ages. I didn't want traditional ones with a lot of ornamental cuts, I wanted to have really simple ones. I would have loved to get Finnish wine glasses but the Finnish factories don't produce crystal glass.

It was a good thing that my husband visited Germany a couple of weeks ago and brought me the German Elle Decoration. In it I saw the perfect glasses from Villeroy-Boch (link...), the Old Luxembourg serie. As there is only limited space in the kitchen, we decided to buy only glasses for red wine and champagne (so all you white wine drinkers, be prepaired to drink your wine from the wrong glasses). The Villeroy-Boch flagship store in Helsinki had only four of each so we have to wait a little to get all the glasses we want. But there are enough glasses for two to enjoy wine next weekend :)

An Italian bistro

On Friday we had a Mexican feast (link...). As I was reluctant to take out all the decorations, we tuned the decorations a bit and had an Italian bistro dinner yesterday. There was spaghetti bolognese on the menu.

A mexican fiesta

I put away Easter yesterday. When doing this I found red paper laterns I have bought a while ago. As we were having tortillas for dinner I decided to decorate for a mexican fiesta. I put all and every colourful thing we had on the table and the tortillas tasted better as a result.
